 Health and Vaccination Services

If you’re planning to travel outside the UK, whether it be for a business trip, a backpacking adventure or a religious pilgrimage to Mecca or Hajj, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in some parts of the world.

In the UK, the NHS routine immunisation (vaccination) schedule protects you against a number of diseases, but does not cover all of the infectious diseases found overseas.

Vaccinations are available to protect you against infections such as Yellow fever, Typhoid and Hepatitis A. We would advise making an appointment to discuss travel vaccinations at least 8 weeks before you are planning to travel, however, we are still able to help if you are traveling sooner.

Our pharmacists are highly trained in their field and can administer travel vaccinations of all types as well as prescribe antimalarial medication. The team will give you thorough, up-to-date health advice and information ahead of your travels so that you are fully aware of the risks involved before you depart.

Contact us for further information.

    How does it work?

    Check what vaccines you need

Use the NHS Fit for Travel or NHS travel vaccinations page to see which vaccines are recommended or required for your destination. Consider:

    • Country-specific disease risks (e.g. yellow fever, typhoid)

Book an appointment (6–8 weeks before travel)

    Make an appointment with:

    • Your GP surgery (some vaccines are free on the NHS like hepatitis A, typhoid, cholera)

    • A private travel clinic (for non-NHS vaccines like rabies, Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever)

    i

Get vaccinated and get proof if needed

    • Receive your vaccines and any necessary boosters

    • You may be given an International Certificate of Vaccination (e.g. for yellow fever)

    • Some countries require proof of vaccination for entry

    Clinical support throughout your travel

Travel vaccinations help protect you and your loved ones from catching a disease when you go abroad. Check which travel vaccinations we offer and how to book your appointment.

What our experts have to say

When should I start thinking about the vaccines I need?

We would advise making an appointment to discuss travel vaccinations at least 8 weeks before you are planning to travel, however, we are still able to help if you are traveling sooner.

Some vaccines need to be given well in advance to allow your body to develop immunity.

You may be more at risk of some diseases, for example, if you’re:

      • Travelling in rural areas
      • Backpacking
      • Staying in hostels or camping
      • On a long trip rather than a package holiday

If you have a pre-existing health problem, this may make you more at risk of infection or complications from a travel-related illness.

Which travel vaccines do I need?

Bring your travel itinerary with you and our Pharmacist will be able to identify and recommend the vaccinations or antimalarials required for your trip.

Some countries require proof of vaccination (for example, for polio or yellow fever vaccination), which must be documented on an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) before you enter or when you leave a country.

Saudi Arabia requires proof of vaccination against certain types of Meningitis for visitors arriving for the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

Even if an ICVP is not required, it’s still a good idea to take a record of the vaccinations you have had with you

How soon before travelling should I contact you ?

For optimal protection, schedule your visit with us at least four weeks before your trip, especially if you need vaccinations for Rabies, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis, or Cholera. If you only require a booster, two weeks (14 days) before your travel is adequate. If you are travelling sooner than 14 days please contact our travel experts and get the advice you need.
